Bocheletsane High School.
Area 1437 SqMt.
Project Status: Completed 2017
Children from the nearby villages in the Lesotho highlands reach The Bocheletsane High School on foot from every direction. The school is hence strategically located at the highest point, and stands out prominently, making it easily visible from afar. Various entrances guide the students to a spacious covered area at the heart of the campus, from where steps and terraces descend towards the Mantsonyane River. This sunny central area serves as the vibrant nucleus of the school—a versatile space for gatherings, outdoor classes, basking in the sunlight, and hosting events. Inspired by the enchanting Maluti Mountains landscape, the school's design aims to harmonize seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Rather than altering the hillside, the architecture follows its contours. Single loaded corridors for the classrooms was a design decision to integrate the views of the landscape at all levels. The classrooms are arrayed along one side of the corridors, offering glimpses of the picturesque scenery on the other side. The classrooms have natural light from two directions to improve the quality of light within. The artificial light has been designed to achieve the correct lux levels at desktops. The staircases positioned at the two ends provide breathtaking panoramic views. Moreover, the innovative roof design not only conserves rainwater for the dry season but is also future-proofed for the installation of solar panels.
