An existing two-room derelict cottage in Goa was transformed into a charming guest cottage that perfectly blends old-world charm with modern functionality. The renovation involved the addition of a kitchen and bathroom, the removal of internal walls to create a more spacious layout, and the installation of a striking sculptural staircase that not only provides access to the roof but also serves as a visual divider between the living and sleeping areas. While the facade retained its traditional Portuguese aesthetics, the interior underwent a contemporary design overhaul, featuring a sophisticated palette of natural stone and wood, exposed rafters, and cleverly placed concealed lighting that illuminates the stairs and counters from below. Unique design elements such as a backlit cupboard with ribbed glass and decorative circular paper lamps enhance the overall ambiance, while specially crafted furniture adds a bespoke touch to the space.
